Innovations in the Olympic Games


In preparation for the Olympic Games the Chinese goverment took several ecological measurements for care your environment and they show to world your andvance in green techologies.

The Beijing National stadium is an example of this applications, this construction have a rainwater collection arrangement, a natural ventilation system and clear roof with inflatable cushions made form EFTE (Ethylene Tetrafluorethylene). Other example is the "Water Cube", that to appear to be made of bubble-wrap, it is completely sunrrounded with EFTE pillows and of this way the chinese less the energy consumption of this building in a 30 percent.

The seven main Olympic stadiums have solar generator that can give 480 kilowatts of energy in any moment. Too ninety percent of the lighting outside of the stadiums and the hot water supply of the Olympic Village are fed by solar energy, and the stadiums too receive power of the Beijing's wind farm.

Without a doubt some the Chinese managed their objective to surprise the world and to demonstrate that with alternating sources of energy also it was possible to be obtained good results.

Engineering Details


It is amazing to see the evolution of our planet every day, to see every detail of creation that makes our live a unique experience ... But if there is something more surprising than anything I have mentioned, is only one thing, a unique and perfect creation, to design the most sophisticated constructions than anyone had ever imagined: the human brain.

The creativity of the human being is unique; so much, then have been able to build great wonders around the world without comparison. One of these majestic creations was opened in the summer of 2008 in Beijing, I speak of the Beijing National Stadium, better known as "Bird's Nest".


This mega structure with a network of twisting steel forming the "branches" of the facade of the stadium make it look like a bird's nest. For budget savings was omitted from the stadium roof, but experts say the stadium would help keep you safe from seismic activity.
Similarly, it was used precast concrete, with 24 columns of 1000 tons each to support the stadium. Finally, 42000 tons of steel were needed to build the facade of the stadium.

Now, what would this wonder do without an engine that drives it? Of course, we need electricity. With the support of one of the companies specializing in the manufacture and installation of dual-axis solar trackers, MECASOLAR installed on a sun tracker Olympic stadium that would reach a total power of 1000 kw of pure energy and eco-friendly, because this was one of the purposes conducted in the construction of the stadium, low power consumption to "don´t hurt the planet."

Finally, in spite of the great adversities and critiques received, this stadium has been considered one of great wonders of the human ingenuity and unique architectonic majesty in its type.

Clean Energy in Beijing 2008



In preparation for 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as future energy demands, China built a wind turbine power plant to provide clean electricity for Beijing and the Olympic Games. Wind Power is clean, plentiful, renewable, widely distributed and reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it takes the place of fossil-fuel-derived electricity.

Wind power can be produced by large scale wind farms connected to electrical grids, as well as by individual turbines for providing electricity to isolated locations. At the end of 2007, worlwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 94.1 Gigawatts. Although wind power currently represents just over 1% of world-wide electricity use, between 2000 and 2007 wind power generation increased more than fivefold globally.
